Music features, should be added because

I think the devs should, Add Music Features, Because all other major, bot services have it, IK about Youtubes ToS, but there is still Spotify, to name the biggest one that comes too mind, and it would be so much fun.

Spotify does not have an open API for accessing raw music stream data or commercial accounts to redistribute those streams legally. Neither does any other music streaming service. They are all mandated by the RIAA to use DRM, the bypass of which would be illegal under section 1201 of the DMCA, at least in the United States, where we operate from.

Anyone breaking YouTube, Spotify, or any other service’s DRM to offer music discord bots, who is based in the US, has the potential to “be fined not more than $500,000 or imprisoned for not more than 5 years, or both”. We don’t believe it is worth putting our business at risk of fines or owners/employees at risk of federal imprisonment, so that people can stream music with a Discord bot.

There is no way, other than making a direct deal with the RIAA and charging every end-user who accesses (read: listens to) music, to offer this legally. You can look at Rythm’s compromise with the RIAA for an example of what this looks like when done legally. We don’t believe that is a viable product or that anyone would be interested in paying for that service, so we haven’t persued it.

We have considered allowing the upload and storage of user-provided audio files, so you could upload a mp3 collection and play those files through a bot. We somewhat doubt there would be much demand for this, but if it is something enough users would be interested in, we could offer it.
